Ellen Page will participate in a live read of the all-time classic »Casablanca« benefiting LGBTQI grassroots activists

Filmmaker Jason Reitman and actress Ellen Page are bringing a live reading of the classic 1940s screenplay »Casablanca« to the Ace Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 8:00 PM. The event marks their fourth collaboration of this kind and benefits LGBTQI grassroots activists through the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice. Tickets are $30 to $150 and now on sale at www.axs.com.

"Astraea supports the bravest and most radical organizations fighting for change and equality; I am truly humbled by the work they do," Ellen said in a release announcing the live reading. "In times of uncertainty and turmoil, it is inspiring to see people come together to support something bigger than themselves."

In April, Reitman and Page raised money for Planned Parenthood with a live read of »Juno«, featuring an all-female cast that included Page, Jennifer Garner, Alia Shawkat, Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, and Kristen Wiig, which the actress described as "one of my most special experiences." "I can’t wait to see the cast and evening that Jason and his team have put together for such an iconic film (as) Casablanca," she added. "I hope you’ll join us."

The cast of Netflix's »The Umbrella Academy« makes its first public appearance at the New York Comic Con

Past Friday, Netflix brought the adaptation of Gerrard Way's popular gothic comic book series, »The Umbrella Academy«, to New York Comic Con as part of its "Netflix and Chill" spooky programming block. Way and the cast, which includes Ellen Page, Mary J. Blige, Cameron Britton, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Colm Feore, Adam Godley, John Magaro and Ashley Madekwe, were in attendance to talk about the project and show the first trailer.

While the video itself isn't available on the internet yet, it opens with the adoption of each of the seven children of The Umbrella Academy. Fast-forward 17 years and their father Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Feore) is dead. Some of the children appear to be dancing, perhaps celebrating the death of their dad, but others look upset. While each family member has superpowers, these are only glimpsed in the footage.

Here's a summary of the event with the most notable statements and how the actors would describe their corresponding role using just a single word:

"I play Number One… and this is my second New York Comic Con. One word to describe my Luther (aka Spaceboy) … Pressured," Hopper explained whose superpower in the series is his strength. "There's one word that's been being used out there, and it's bitter… and he's not bitter. He's just mean," Castañeda teased about his role as Diego aka The Kraken (number 2). "One word is tricky, so I would say she's guilt-ridden. She's got a lot of guilt," Raver-Lampman added while talking about Allison aka The Rumor (number 3). Sheehan described his character, Klaus aka The Séance (number 4), as "Chaos. Chaos is a good word. He's a swirling Tasmanian devil of a character that doesn't know which end is up most of the time." "Number Five" (he has no other nickname) is able to travel through time, and despite being in his 50s, is trapped in a youthful body. Gallagher called his character "Calculated. Calculated chaos."

"I play Vayna (aka The White Violin, number 7) … and Vayna, I would certainty say, is anxious," Page confessed. And what of number 6, Ben Hargreeves aka The Horror? Well he is dead when the comic series begins but has a way of popping up through visions and other forms. Finally, there's the "Super Evil" Hazel. "He works as a time-travelling assassin but he still finds no magic in that," Britton said of his character who is partner-in-crime to Blige's character, Cha-Cha. "One word to describe my character is evil. Just evil, evil, evil. She's just an empty, evil character," the actress shared.

When asked about the similarities between the show and the comics, Aidan Gallagher shared: "this is such a unique property, when you explain it to people who aren't fans, they'll say 'I get it' - but they won't get it... when you see the way it's shot, the writing behind it, our incredible cast, you guys are gonna be blown away. I think we do a good job of honoring the comics, but we have some interesting stuff ahead." "Because it's 10 hours of footage, the characters have gotten more complex and more well-rounded," Cameron Britton added. "You have to take liberties. You have to spash some of your originality into the soup… otherwise you're just recreating something in a different form, but fuck that," Robert Sheehan concluded.

"I've always wanted to be the superhero or super-villain," Mary J. Blige shared. "I wanted to learn how to shoot a gun and do martial arts. It was perfect, yeah. Oh, I picked up some skills, yes." "There's many an email chain about all of us having very unique dancing styles. A lot of YouTube videos shared," Emmy Raver-Lampman revealed while Robert Sheehan added "the first thing I did was my part of the dance montage, and I was shitting a giant brick because it was my first day filming." "Vayna Hargraves plays the violin. She's very, very, very, very excellent at it. I am not," Ellen Page stated with a laugh. "This posed a challenge that I was excited to accept, and kudos to anyone who plays the violin, because holding the goddamn thing is so damn hard. My 'Twinkle, Twinkle' is close to perfect!"

"I thought it was like a physical thing, because the comics are very inspirational. You see his piercing eyes and the way he holds himself," Gallagher shared. "I found myself drawing on this mentality… I try to portray that maturity through a 58-year-old's mindset." "You know what's weird about this role is that my whole career I've always been told, 'Don't get too big! You won't get cast,'" Hopper recalled. "I could not get big enough for this role. You'll see as this show comes out that there was no way I could have gymed enough or taken enough steroids to get where I needed to get to." "I think, for me, the work was the same. The finding your intentions and playing the scene and being in the moment and the acting part of it. The thing that's the biggest difference for me is the scale," Raver-Lampman said, comparing the role to her time on stage as a member of Hamilton. "The camera is maybe an inch from your face and you have to do a lot less."

The 10-episode series comes from Steve Blackman as executive producer and showrunner, with additional executive producers Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg from Dark Horse Entertainment and Blue Grass Television. Jeremy Slater wrote the pilot script adapted from the comic book. »The Umbrella Academy« will be available to stream beginning Friday, February 15, 2019.

On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world. But not everything went according to plan. In their teenage years, the family fractured and the team disbanded. Now, the six surviving thirty-something members reunite upon the news of Hargreeves' passing. Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Vanya and Number Five work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father's death. But the estranged family once again begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

We are moving to a new web hosting service / DomainFactory has been hacked and experienced a huge data breach

DomainFactory, one of the largest web hosting companies in Germany (where our website is currently hosted), has suffered a huge data breach. The breach dates back to January 29, 2018, and the attacker had access to sensitive customer data including name, company name, customer number, address, email address, telephone number, DomainFactory phone password, date of birth, bank name and account number (eg IBAN and BIC), and Schufa score (German credit score).

The first indication that a breach happened was a post by the attacker on the DomainFactory support forum on July 3. The forum has since been temporarily shut down but, according several websites, the attacker published data of a number of customers as proof. The attacker also said he hacked the hosting provider to obtain the data of a person who apparently owes him a large amount of money. But after he realized that DomainFactory was not disclosing the breach to its customers, he took the task upon himself. DomainFactory finally confirmed the breach on Friday and said they have started an investigation, called in external experts to help with it, notified the relevant data protection authority and are working on securing their systems to prevent similar breach in the future. The company said that the attacker accessed the data after "a data feed after a system change inadvertently made certain customer information accessible to outside parties."

In this context, it was also revealed that DomainFactory outsourced the 24/7 operational server supervision in January 2018 to "LvivIT!", a Ukrainian IT service of freelancers owned by GoDaddy Inc. A piquant detail is the fact that GoDaddy took over hosting company Host Europe Group in April 2017, which in turn acquired DomainFactory in October 2013. The information about the outsourcing of the technical administration was only known to certain resellers and not widely communicated to all customers so far.

Due to the non-transparent information policy regarding this controversial case, the resulting loss of trust and the lack of an honest and comprehensive statement on the part of DomainFactory, we see no other choice than moving our stuff to another hosting partner. For this reason 'Ellen Page Online' might experience a downtime of several days due to the relocation in the near future. Thank you for your understanding as well as taking the time reading this!

Ellen Page joins the cast of Netflix’s Tales of the City reboot as well as the Tegan and Sara Foundation

Netflix has given a series order for a revival of cult '90s LGBT-themed show "Tales of the City," now titled, »Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City«. Set in present-day, the 10-episode limited series will see Laura Linney, Olympia Dukakis and Barbara Garrick reprise their original roles from the three previous Tales mini-series with some exciting new additions. Most notably in the form of Canadian actress Ellen Page, who plays Linney's character's estranged daughter Shawna.

Tales of the City

According to first reports, the plot is loosely based on "Mary Ann in Autumn," the eighth novel in the book saga, and follows Mary Ann (Linney), who returns home to San Francisco and is reunited with her daughter (Page) and ex-husband Brian, twenty years after leaving them behind to pursue her career. Fleeing the midlife crisis that her picture-perfect Connecticut life created, Mary Ann returns home to her chosen family and will quickly be drawn back into the orbit of Anna Madrigal (Dukakis) and the residents of 28 Barbary Lane.

"The magical, vivid world that [author] Armistead Maupin built in Tales of the City is one that offered so many — particularly the LGBTQ+ community — a home for the first time. For many, Tales was the first time they saw themselves on screen," said writer and showrunner Lauren Morelli ("Orange is The New Black"). "I am humbled to now find my own home within Tales and to continue telling Armistead’s stories."

Commenting on the announcement, Maupin added: "I couldn’t be more excited about this new brand-new incarnation of Tales. It’s set in present-day San Francisco with all the joys and complications that might suggest for the residents of 28 Barbary Lane. Mrs. Madrigal’s tenants, both old and new, will be entangled in delicious new adventures and ever-expanding possibilities for love."

Production is expected to begin later this year for a 2019 debut. Be sure to add the show to your Netflix watch list so you don’t miss the first episode!

Meanwhile, Ellen also joined the Board of Directors at the Tegan and Sara Foundation to fight for health, economic justice and representation for LGBTQ girls and women. The actress made the following announcement on Instagram past Friday:

"Tegan and Sara have stood as a beacon of hope for LGBTQ+ individuals since the start of their careers more than twenty years ago. Their music and their message have inspired and empowered thousands around the world, myself included. They are trailblazers in our community, speaking out on behalf of those who feel they will never be heard. Their platform is a reminder to us all that even in our most isolating struggles, we are not alone. It is a true privilege to be working alongside them & the other incredible women on this board. With the Tegan and Sara Foundation, we can continue to elevate the voices of women & non-binary in the LGBTQ+ & work to transform our global community into one of inclusivity."

As explained on its website, the organization's mission is "founded on a commitment to feminism and racial, social and gender justice." They work in partnership and solidarity with other organizations fighting for LGBTQ and women’s rights, raising funds and awareness as well as tackling the inequality that prevents people affected from reaching their full potential.
